February Planting video

In February, 50 tree planters came to the MA Center to give 85 apple, plum, and persimmon treess a new home. Common Vision's Fruit Tree Tour joined GreenFriends to guide the process. Here is a short video made by the Common Vision team:

Orchard Ploughing for water and roots.

November 29th - December 1st, 2009:

A team of folks designed and plouged the remaining land for Amma's orchard. This was no ordinary ploughing event. The Keyline method that was used will help move water fromthe valleys to the ridges and create deep root growth. This method has shown to build topsoil at a rate of 1-2" per year!!.

Day of Service Tree Planting

On Sunday January 18th, families from Amma's youth group, Bala Kendra, leaders from the Ayudh youth group, and over 60 people inspired by Barack Obama's call for a day of service, planted almost 100 trees at the MA Center.

Awaken Planet: Yoga and Reforestation

January 4th was truly a transformative event for all involved. We started the new year off by aligning your heart, mind, and actions in service of life.

~ Two asana workshops with certified Anusara yoga teachers Katchie Ananda and KK Ledford
~ Planting hundreds of trees with Greenfriends and Common Vision
~ Aligning with Nature’s principle and processes to create a resilient and productive ecosystem
~ Vegetarian Lunch and Dinner

GreenFriends, Amma’s international environmental initiative, has planted over 500,000 trees in India and is currently reforesting 200 acres at the Bay area’s MA Center.

Common Vision
teaches ecological strategies to regenerate landscapes, has worked with over 45,000 students in California, and has planted over 3,000 fruit trees in urban public schools.

These images were taken during Amma's November visit. Over the course of the week-long visit, over 200 devotees and and environmentalist from around the Bay Area planted over 700 native trees and shrubs.

Permaculture at the MA Center

In August of 2008, world renowned permaculture and reforestation expert Geoff Lawton and local environmental education nonprofit Common Vision ran a 3-day workshop at the MA Center focused on water catchment strategies. The workshop dug a 500 ft water harvesting feature (swale) that will soak thousands of gallons of water into the soil every rain.
